Wanderlust Down Under

A beachscape

It’s no secret that us Aussie’s loooooove to travel, and when it comes to long weekends, we know how to do it right. We’ve got a knack for making the most of these precious breaks— and in a country packed with bush, beaches, and delicious food, we don’t have to travel far to find an adventure! As a nation we have a serious case of wanderlust, and there’s no better way to scratch that itch than with a trip to our favorite beach, winery or camping spot! Give us three days and we’ll find ourselves an epic adventure or relaxing retreat. Whether you want to lie on beach, sleep under the stars, or head interstate, our beautiful country offers something for everyone. So, where do Aussies flock to on those glorious long weekends?

When it comes to long weekends, us Aussie’s love a bit of sun, sand, and sea. When the sun’s shining, you can bet we’re headed to the beach! Our stunning coastline boasts an array of idyllic beach destinations, from the iconic Bondi Beach in Sydney to the tranquil Vivonne Bay on Kangaroo Island.
The laid-back surf towns of Byron Bay and Margaret River offer a relaxing, easy escape, with café hopping and craft breweries on the menu. And if it’s views you’re after, then the breathtaking Whitsundays or the iconic Great Ocean Road have you covered! Whether you’re building sandcastles with the family or catching some rays with mates, our coasts are a quintessential Aussie holiday hotspot.

If we’re in need of an escape from the daily hustle, Australia’s rugged bushland is where we’ll head. Tangled eucalyptus forests, unique wildlife, and breathtaking landscapes await—the ultimate off grid retreat.
If it’s hiking we’re after the beauty of the Blue Mountains is hard to beat, as are the serene Grampians, or the untamed wilderness of the Kimberley. In the Top End, national parks like Kakadu, and the Daintree Rainforest offer a taste of Australia’s diverse landscapes. And for those in the southeast, Tasmania is a popular escape. This island paradise is a treasure trove of natural wonders and breathtaking landscapes— from the lush rainforests of the Tarkine wilderness to the rugged peaks of Cradle Mountain. Us Aussie’s love a spot of camping too, and we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to places to spend a night under the stars. It’s hard to go past the night skies of the NT, but there’s gems to be found the whole country over.

It’s hard to escape the call of Australia’s vibrant cities, each with its unique charm and cultural offering. We love heading interstate, and for a long weekend the turns up the excitement meter, our cities hard to bet. Melbourne, known for its artistic flair, laneways, and culinary scene, beckons you to explore its hidden gems and indulge in a cup of coffee along the way. The inspiration for Bluestone Lane, the café and coffee culture here is world class. Sydney’s iconic landmarks, such as the Sydney Opera House and Bondi Beach, provide an unforgettable backdrop for cosmopolitan adventures. Meanwhile, Adelaide’s festivals and Brisbane’s riverfront delights offer a feast of experiences for city explorers. There’s also Perth’s laid-back vibes and breweries, and Darwin’s cultural experiences and tropical delicacies not to be missed.

We’ve got a lot of tasty food in Australia, and long weekends are the perfect excuse to indulge our taste buds. Our renowned wine and food regions are an irresistible drawcard, and a luxurious way to spend a few days. From the vineyards of the Barossa Valley and the picturesque Yarra Valley to the cool-climate delights of the Hunter Valley and Margaret River, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to local brews and produce. These regions offer the opportunity to sample world-class wines, indulge in delectable local produce, and soak in the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.
