French Press Brew Guide

French Press is the classic craft brewing method.

Rich, luscious, strong, balanced and incredibly easy to make. Anyone can make a delicious French Press but if you follow a few simple rules your French Press can be elevated into a culinary work of art.

Tools needed:

  • 12 oz. French Press
  • Electronic gram scale
  • Coffee grinder
  • Bamboo stirring paddle
  • Fresh ground Bluestone Lane coffee

Brew time:

4 mins


Brew steps:

Step 1:

30g of ground coffee – grind target is the texture of sea salt.

Step 2:

Boil 350g of water then let cool for 2 minutes to sit at 195 F.


Step 3:

Add the coffee to the French Press.


Step 4:

Add 60g of water to cover the grounds and stir well to ensure all grinds are wet.

Step 5:

Fill the French Press with remaining water and wait for 4 minutes.

Step 6:

Slowly press the French Press and then pour the coffee into a decanter to separate the brewed coffee and the grounds.  Letting the coffee and the grounds sit together in the French Press can create an extremely bitter over-extracted coffee.
